Canonical measure assignments

We work under the assumption of the Axiom of Determinacy and associate a measure to each cardinal κ < אε0 in a recursive definition of a canonical measure assignment. We give algorithmic applications of the existence of such a canonical measure assignment (computation of cofinalities, computation of the Kleinberg sequences associated to the normal ultrafilters on all projective ordinals).

A Canonical Password Strength Measure

We notice that the “password security” discourse is missing a fundamental notion of the “password strength”. We propose a canonical measure of password’s strength. We give formal definition of the “guessing attack”, and the “attacker’s strategy”. The measure is based on the assessment of the efficiency of the best possible guessing attack. Unlike naive password strength assessments our measure ...

A Canonical Measure of Allelic Association

The measurement of biallelic pair-wise association called linkage disequilibrium (LD) is an important issue in order to understand the genomic architecture. A large variety of such measures of association in two by two tables have been proposed in the literature. We propose and justify six biometrical postulates which should be fulfilled by a canonical measure of LD. In short, LD measures are d...

Lecture 4 : More Measure Concentration : Counting DNF Satisfying Assignments

Suppose there is a bag containing red balls and blue balls. You would like to estimate the fraction of red balls in the bag. However, you are only allowed to sample randomly from the bag with replacement. The straightforward method is to make T random samples and use the fraction of red balls in the random samples as an estimate of the true fraction. The question is: how many samples are enough...

Variational principle and phase space measure in non-canonical coordinates

Theoretical formalisms very often use non-canonical equations of motion. For example, the equations for Eulerian variables, that describe ideal continuous media, are in general non-canonical [1]. Non-canonical phase space flows can be derived from Hamiltonian dynamics by means of non-canonical transformations of phase space coordinates (i.e. transformations with Jacobian not equal to one) while...
